Barcelona is situated on the north-east coast of Spain. Its vibrant cosmopolitan population and economic importance make it one of the most dynamic cities on the Mediterranean. The bustling artistic boulevard, Las Ramblas, is filled with shops, restaurants, street vendors, musicians and performers. Barcelona is a centre of international cultural interest, housing works by Picasso, Gaudí and Miró. Coupled with the exceptional climate and its sandy beaches this makes Barcelona an attractive tourist proposition all year round.

THE STAFF

Our young, dynamic and flexible native teachers are a dedicated team of highly qualified and experienced teachers of Spanish as a foreign language. All are trained to establish a close rapport with students and to stimulate conversation and full participation in a range of student-centered communicative activities.

THE SCHOOL

ABC College is a large language school set in a modern six-storey building, custom-built to guarantee effective and comfortable language learning. All our classrooms are fully air-conditioned and equipped with audio-visual facilities. The school also has a large conference hall and a computer room with free internet access, as well as a penthouse bar-terrace with panoramic views of Barcelona. abcCollege is situated in the city centre, near Plaza Molina, well connected by major metro and bus routes.

LEVELS

Testing is at 9am on the first Monday. This establishes your level, class schedule (mornings or afternoons and class details. Your teacher will inform you which course materials you will need.

Begginers The student has no previous knowledge of Spanish. He/she knows only a few words or phrases and doesn¹t understand spoken Spanish.

Elementary The student is able to communicate in certain situations, using simple vocabulary and basic structure.

Pre-Intermediate The student speaks Spanish using simple vocabulary and basic structures and understands slow clear spoken Spanish.

Intermediate The student peaks and understands basic everyday Spanish and can maintain a simple conversation but still makes typical mistakes.

Upper Intermediate The student has a sound knowledge of tenses and structures, good gist understanding and a wide vocabulary but still makes typical mistakes.

Advanced The student understands fluent native conversation and is able to communicate with ease using a wide colloquial vocabulary. He/she has an advanced written level.

Superior The student understands fluent native conversation and is able to communicate with ease using a wide colloquial vocabulary. He/she has an advanced written level.

CHOOSE YOUR COURSE - 2006

Our classes have an average of 8 students of all nationalities, and limited to a maximum of 12 students, to encourage optimum interaction between students and teacher. Classes are held from 9am to 12:25pm and 1:30 to 4:55pm. Minimum age is 18 years Course material fee Euro 50 All classes begin every Monday. INTENSIVE Intensive Courses are divided according to level of ability, ranging from beginners to superior. Students may choose to take 20 or 25 lessons per week, that is 4 or 5 45 minute lessons daily from Monday to Friday. The key feature of these courses is continunity, allowing students to extend their courses over the number of weeks required, starting any Monday (except for absolute beginners ­ see starting dates above)

ONE-TO-ONE These courses guarantee highly accelerated language learning and focus on the specific linguistic needs of the individual student. They are ideal for students who have little free time or need to demonstrate rapid short-term improvement. Students can take 20 or 25 lessons per week. Price per Lesson.

CULTURAL PROGRAMS

Consists of 25 lessons per week, divided into 20 language lessons (intermediate to superior levels only) and 5 cultural lessons. The cultural lessons aim to provide a broad vision of 20th century Spain through history, art, literature, film and customs, as well as defining aspects of contemporary Spanish life. Classes are held from Monday to Friday during the mornings or afternoons, depending on various circumstances such as level, number of students, groups, etc. Students will be informed of their timetable on their first day of class. Accommodation is booked from the Sunday before the course starts until the Saturday after the course ends. * In hotel and homestay a 2 person booking is required. In abc student residence, shared flat and university residence the room is shared with another student.

The registration fee of US $100 ensures a place in the class. This fee is non-refundable but is flexible for use on future dates should your plans change for any reason. Checks are to be made payable to LANGUAGE STUDY ABROAD. The full tuition and housing fees, as quoted above, are due 30 days prior to class date.
